The Transformation Button: Today is 1yr Since My First Open-Heart Surgery
How love, soul and AI rewired my role as a patient and a person.
I’ve been approaching today’s one year milestone with amazement, gratitude, reflection, and pride. The past year has been one of profound challenges and remarkable victories, filled with love, lessons and moments that continue to shape me deeply.
During my crazy journey, I’ve navigated through two open-heart surgeries (just 20 days apart), had countless episodes of atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia, endured four thoracentesis procedures, two cardioversions, a persistent staph infection, a debridement, caught COVID, managed a picc line and relied on a wound-vac machine for six weeks. In total, I’ve spent (now) forty-three nights in hospital beds.
If that wasn’t enough, just 48 hours ago (yes on Thurs June 5), I had another procedure… an urgent pacemaker insertion. This is after experiencing dangerously low bradycardia and thousands of episodes of stage 2 heart block (Mobitz II) captured from a heart monitor. I was in Chicago literally presenting to a global health company on my AI-powered patient story when the call came in.
Yet, through all these events, I’ve found opportunities to heal, grow, and give back. Here’s a peek:
Graduated cardiac rehab in the top 1% - my a personal commitment to recovery and resilience.
Shared my story and insights on major event stages advocating for patient empowerment and healthcare innovation.
I’m writing a book detailing my experiences, reflections, and the transformative insights gained from my AI-powered health journey.
Launched a digital platform, Hearts & Algorithms, aimed at supporting other cardiac patients, providing resources, comfort, and clarity.
Assisted almost 100 cardiac patients, offering guidance, reassurance, encouragement and access to Hearts & Algorithms for their own challenging journeys.
Collaborated with surgeons, cardiologists, and leading hospital networks to help enhance patient care and advocacy.
Reflecting on all I’ve been through, I remind myself that I was born for this journey—it helps fuels my motivation and purpose. Its also why I launched TheFuturePatient. Every step, setback, and success has deepened my appreciation for life and my commitment to helping others navigate their own health challenges.

Tonight, we’re going to celebrate. I’m taking my family to my children’s favorite dinner… Hibachi, to mark this incredible one-year milestone together.
To everyone who supported me, asked questions, offered feedback, and stood by my side throughout this year…thank you. Your presence and encouragement have made all the difference. Here’s to continued strength, healing, and advocacy for the future of the patient experience.
